Ponies and Piggies and Frogs

We have waited sooo long for Wren to have enough hair for ponytails.

The time has come, finally!
And isn't this little sprout the sweetest thing you've ever seen?

I didn't think she had enough for piggies, but I picked her up from daycare and they had been playing with her hair and this is what they came up with:

(Can't handle the cute.)

Here's what happens when she takes a nap with a pony in:

And, just a smidge more cute--we are frogsitting for Josh's mom and Wren likes to pester poor little Bouncer by hitting his cage.

Halloween 2011

Just a few pictures. Wren obviously doesn't eat candy so we only had 2 doors to knock on. Our neighborhood is swarming with kids and we had planned on handing out candy with Wren but we got home past her bedtime as it was.

She took a nap on the way out to Mulberry so we slipped her glasses on.

Our first stop was to Grammy & Papa's house.

Then we headed to Mamaw & Papaw's. The lighting on these is horrible.

Lincoln was spending the night with them and was rather annoyed by Wren taking up all of his attention! He doesn't like anything interrupting his Mamaw time!

Here is our little family pic. Like I said, it was much past Wren's bedtime but we had a great night!

50's Style Trunk-or-Treat

Before I post all about Wren's first Halloween, I thought I'd share some pictures of our 50's style trunk-or-treat! For those who don't know, they are a fun community trick-or-treat, usually taking place at churches, and they allow people from all over the community to come and fill their goodie bags.

Shell helped CUMC to organize their first one this year, and when I heard about it, I was so excited!

Wren's Halloween costume was a little 50's sockhop girl, complete with cateye glasses and saddle shoes.

As you can imagine, the glasses did NOT stay on her face for long, but here is a cute picture we gher in them. BEYOND adorable!

To stick with her costume theme, we decided to decorate our trunk as a 50's style soda shop.
Josh and I got in the spirit. Josh was Fonzy-inspired (complete with rolled pants, "Aaaayyyyy!") and I found the best 50's housewife outfit I could come up with in my closet and straightened my hair, though I wasn't skilled enough to attempt a real hairstyle!

I got some decorations at the party store and made a little soda shop, here are the stools and the table with Elvis placemats and rootbeer floats.

The other side had a giant juke box and we brought ourselves to present day and played some fun 50's music from the iPhone. :)

This was all that was in the actual trunk:

It got pretty chilly so Josh and Wren cuddled up for a while.

I wanted to cover her ears, but this is how she felt about having her theme and costume compromised:

It was SUCH a fun time!! Can't wait for next year!

Pumpkin Carving Party

Prepare for Picture Overload!

I've vowed to get these posts DONE!! Unfortunately, Blogger takes quite a while to upload pics, so I've just decided to upload as I can and that means a whole lotta pics in one post.

Anyway, back in October, Wren helped us host the 1st Annual Wright Family Pumpkin Carving Party!
Here she is with her cute little pumpkin. We used her handprints as the eyes/eyelashes and it turned out pretty cute:
We had a lot of fun with food.
Yes, if you look closely, you will see a pumpkin vomiting guacamole. Is it the most appetizing thing in the universe? Probably not! But you don't need much to make Josh's guac appetizing because it's THAT good! And I knew all of our nephews would get a kick out of it.

We made spiderweb 7-layer dip:

And we made THIS pumpkin fluff. It was a big hit and will be making another appearance at Thanksgiving this week!
All of the kiddos got a little care package full of sugar and games:

We made these cute little spider suckers:

And we sent everyone home with a little tub of the apple butter we made after our trip to the orchard:

Okay, enough of the fun details. Onto the party...

Wren got lots of snuggles in! Here she is with Aunt Bub:

Here are all the kids. Caleb was sweet enough to oblige me and get in there.

Grammy & Wren:

Here's Parker rolling in the leaves:

Everybody had a great time carving:

And Owen even had a little fun tasting pumpkin guts:

A little unsure:

Ummm, yuck!

We got a few funny pictures of Wren and Owen. It was hard to get them both to focus and stay in one spot. This is a good example...Wren is very intent on picking up that tiny little rock and Owen is hitting the road!

Here they are trading pumpkin carving tips:

Ooope! Got one!!

And then we tortured them by putting them in the pile of dry leaves. We dropped leaves on them and at one point they were both crying. Owen is the best baby so if he's crying, you know you've pushed him VERY far! Wren's looking a little concerned for her buddy:
What I failed to do was take pictures of all the kids with their pumpkins. The bigger kids were busy running around our house. I think everyone had a good time and we can't wait to plan some fun things for the 2nd Annual!!

One Year Old

How do you measure a year?
Betcha have that song in your head now, don't you?!

Every time I think of the year mark of anything, I always think of that song. And I break it down to minutes, hours, just like the song. And I've been doing that over the past week--breaking down the last 12 months into little tiny segments.

Little snippets of time. Wren sleeping on Josh's chest. Bathtime. Holidays. Storytimes. Wren with her doggies. Wren with her cousins, her auntie, her uncles, her grandparents. Wren crying, Wren nursing, Wren growing and changing before our eyes. First smiles, first teeth, first time painting her toenails. Her tube surgery, lots of colds, a bump or bruise here and there. Cute shoes, lots of clothes, all our trips to Target.

I look back at the last year and I literally lose my breath, both from the pure amazement that is this little miracle and also from the shock at the speed of life. I want to stop it, to bottle it up, to take in every single precious moment. I want to remember everything about her and this magical age.

Brand new, snuggling with Mom:

At her 1st Birthday Party, smothering Mommy with wet, slobbery kisses:

Our little beauty:

She is sweet and sassy and oh-so opinionated! She is smart and she is clever. She has a funny little sense of humor and she can be the moodiest girl I've ever known. She is shy with those she doesn't know, and she doesn't hand out smiles freely. (This can be a little embarrassing when she gives judgy blank stares to strangers, but I actually quite like that she's got a mind of her own and she's not afraid to use it!) She is a girl who knows what she wants and she pretty much knows how to get it. She much prefers folding (or unfolding, rather) laundry and crinkling paper to any toy. We think she might be a lefty. Though she can do it on her own pretty well, she still likes to be pampered by Mom and she enjoys having me hold her bottle, but Daddy has her figured out. She loves our nighttime routine, but hates having to change clothes and get her diaper changed. Daddy has a magic spell that can put her to sleep before she knows what hit her. She's a Daddy's girl through and through, but that's just fine by me.

One year has passed in what seems like 5 minutes.
Life is sweeter with her in it, that's for sure.

Looking forward to what the next 12 months bring!
Happy Birthday, beautiful Wren!
