Feed My Cheeks!

Some of these pictures go back to late March, but you don't get cheeks like Wren's without feeding them well and often!
After her 4 month check-up, the doctor said she was ready to start solids. We decided to wait another couple weeks and started her on rice cereal. I found a recipe for homemade organic rice cereal and we got her started on that, then followed with organic homemade oatmeal about a week later.

At first she didn't know what the heck to do. She was hungry, and this girl is serious about her food! So she was getting impatient. She didn't like the texture so much, but all it took was for us to sign "milk" to her for her to realize that she was supposed to swallow it!

Daddy gave it a shot:
And Grammy & Papa were over for dinner, so Grammy gave it a shot:
After a couple days, she thought she was pro enough to take over herself!
A few weeks later, we got started on more foods, beginning with avocado. She liked it pretty well, but I learned quickly that she liked it better when I mixed it with her rice. I think it was a little tart for her.

Here are a couple videos from avocados:

Next, we moved onto sweet potatoes, yummm!
She loves them!

Messy Face!
Then squash:

And when we were in Boston, Wren's cousin, Alex, let her borrow his chair while she tried green beans:
We are currently doing carrots and will be making peas for this week. We do make all of her babyfood, except the doctor said not to make carrots because you can't regulate the nitrate levels. So turnips, beets, carrots, spinach, greens...all of those can't be made from home. And the green beans above, we bought because it was easier for traveling. Basically, we make every attempt to do organic homemade whenever possible but there are certain times when it just doesn't work and we're okay with that! Also, her doctor said to start her on veggies so that she didn't think all food was sweet like fruits tend to be. So far, she hasn't hated anything we've given her...she's got cheeks to maintain, after all!!

Springy Lady

Here are some pictures (they're a few weeks old now) of our little lady enjoying spring.

She loves dresses and cardigans, just like Mommy!

Here she is at our first cookout of the season with Auntie:
And here she is during one of our first nice days of the season. We took her out so she could feel the grass. Earlier that same day, we headed to Menards to buy her all sorts of flowers for her own little flower garden (post on that soon). Here she is picking out some Sweet Peas:

It's funny to see this because just a few weeks have passed and now she is sitting up without help for long periods of time...at this point, she would sit but topple over after a minute or two:

Chubby toes feeling the grass for the first time:

And we love this picture! Her eyes are the same color as the sky, such a little butterball!:

It's been SO busy at our house lately and I've had no time to update the blog! I'm hoping to get our pics organized over the next couple of days. I need to empty the camera memory cards because we're leaving for Boston on Saturday and we'll be taking lots of pictures when Wren meets her Uncle Jeremy, Aunt Lisa and her cousins, Alex and Austin for the first time!
