Happy Birthday Linc!!!

We missed Linc's First Birthday on Saturday when we were gone. But we want to wish him a BIG HAPPY BIRTHDAY and we'll get to see him this weekend so I'll be sure to post some pictures when I get a chance.
Can you believe this was just a year ago?!?! Time sure flies!

More pics of the cutie soon...

WHALE WATCHING!!!!!!

So on Friday, we went whale watching and it was absolutely amazing. Truly, we (or at least I) were dumbfounded! I am so in love with these big gentle creatures!!

Here's Josh and Jeremy...so excited to be posing for a picture in public. :) So we left from Boston Harbor and it was like 90-something and HOT! But once the boat got going it was perfect! We weren't sure what we would see. Or if we would see anything, but we got lucky! The guide said that our watch was one of the best that they've had in a really long time. We saw three different types of whales, and possibly even four. We know that we saw humpbacks (and even a momma and her calf!), some miki whales (which are smaller) and some fin whales (which don't tend to put their tails out of the water...they're the longer looking ones that keep their fins out most of the time...hence the name!) But the guide said something about Wright whales as well, but it was never clear as to whether any of the ones we saw were that. (We'll pretend that we did since it's our last name...just because.) But she did say that we saw over 12 different whales which is just unheard of!! We got really lucky!

You can see two here...aaaahhmazing!
and two here too... Here's a fin whaleanother one up close and here are some tail pics......and then HERE is where we hit the mother load!!! we saw so many of them eating. It's crazy! The seagulls know they're coming up, so they flock around and land right on their heads.

Me using my mad camera skills...
And to top it all off, we met Lisa for dinner. (She had to work, so she didn't go whale watching with us, but she's lucky enough to work RIGHT in the middle of all of these buildings downtown...I SO envy her in that respect!) Anyway, we at at THIS place, and I ate an entire meal of seafood for the first time ever!! We had crab claws, some tasty spicy shrimp, and lobster rolls, crab cake burgers, the entire works! It was fantastic. Yum.

Then we headed home and relaxed. We had seriously such a great (or, should I say...LEGENDARY) time the entire weekend. It sucks to be so far away from these guys, but it's great when we get to see them. I know Josh and Jeremy had fun beating eachother in football and it was just a great weekend. We won't say who won at football. But again, we want to thank you guys for having us and for all of the thought and planning that you put into making it such a great weekend for us. HAVE FUN IN VEGAS!!!!!!!!!!!!! We love you guys!

Saturday=Tourists

Saturday, we were the ultimate tourists. We went on one of THESE and had such a blast! We highly recommend the Duck Tour! You get to see so many landmarks and learn some interesting stuff that you wouldn't otherwise get to learn. Like, we saw a bar that they used in the shooting of the Departed and we saw the Real World Boston's house (remember...the firehouse!) and we would have never known those things were there had our conDUCKtor not told us!

Here's a pic of Lisa, Josh and I before the tour started Yep, that's me. I got to drive the boat...along with like three kids. Hey, what can I say?! I wanted to experience it full force!
Here's a pic as we are entering into the water. How cool...basically a bus that floats!
Old Iron Sides (not the old ladies standing there, hehe)
Then, after a tasty lunch at THIS place (talk about getting a little tipsy on some Raspberry margaritas!), we hit Cheers. I think it is a requirement if you visit Boston that you visit Cheers. We walked through really quick, and no, it doesn't look like the bar. But it was cool, nonetheless.
Where everybody knows your name...duh duh duh da dum duh
Here's a pic of the Granary Burial Grounds where lots of famous people are buried...Sam Adams, Paul Revere, John Hancock...and I think possibly maybe even Mother Goose! If it's not this one that she's in, then it's another one that we passed in Boston.

We also walked around the Boston Common which is kind of like a mini-Central Park. It was gorgeous. And there was also a place called the Gardens (I believe) and we got to see lots of statues (even some of these cute little ducklings from a children's book that I meant to try to find) but we didn't take any pics with our camera that turned out very well. So you'll just have to imagine that part of the day...
Truly, we were like touristy machines this day. It is such a historic and amazing city. You could literally always find something to do. We cannot wait to go back and get to do more!!! And Patty, we definitely got our hot nuts! :) We all got a giggle outta that one.

More blogs soon...

Blogger isn't working to let me finish the Boston Blogs, so I'll do it asap after it is back up!!

Sunday Night

Let's just say that Sunday night got a little crazy. And our livers still hurt from the entire weekend...

...and this is how Josh and Jeremy BOTH felt the next day. I'd say that Josh was a little worse off. Lisa and I on the other hand, well...we know our limits. :)

Red Sox Game!!!!!

Our last night in Boston (Memorial Day) we got to go to a Red Sox game. It was such a great time!!! We even got to experience some interesting Bostonians. But it was really amazing to see Fenway and to catch a game.
Here is a pic from Beer Works where Josh got interviewed by a Japanese tv station of some sort because of his Matsuzaka shirt. He was definitely awkward-Josh and didn't want to talk to the lady!
And here they are eating some sausages loaded with peppers and onions. I didn't think that I would like them but actually they were really good!!!
View from our seats...GREAT seats! And we got to see an in-field homerun as well as a homerun into the Green Monster.

This was a great ending to a great weekend. We had so much fun and want to say THANKS THANKS THANKS to Jeremy & Lisa!!! We can't wait to do it again!

Kowe first...this was her gift for Josh's birthday. A cute little golf dress. And here she is begging. Of course. And being a total spoiled girl.
Here's Josh opening our gift. We have been wanting a new camera forever but kept saying that we needed to wait till we got pregnant. But to our surprise, his parents got us THIS! We're so excited to get to use it in Boston!!

Thank you!!! Happy early birthdayJosh!

Farewell Bertsch's!

Jess & Fritz are off to Virginia and they had a little going away party on Friday. I was horribly sick so I wasn't too much fun, but Josh had fun nonetheless. We played some funny games and would have stayed all night long had it not been for me being sick and having to work the next day. I didn't take any pictures except this one, but it's funny enough. Jeremy (left) made the guys chug a beer and Josh said it had been years since he'd done it. The funnier picture is one I couldn't get quick enough, but itty bitty Jessi was in the middle of the guys causing some sort of trouble. Pretty funny indeed. We're gonna miss these guys a lot but are excited for a good reason to visit Portsmouth asap!! And our vote for their next assignment in 3 years is definitely going to be for Hawaii!!!

Garden

We started planting our garden tonight. So far, so good...but we still have some things to do in it. And we're still contemplating an herb garden...so we'll see how that goes after we get home from Boston.

Cubs Game!

We took a quick day trip to Chicago to meet up with Travis and catch a Cubs game. It was so much fun!!
Here we are at a microbrewery before the game. We got some deep dish too! (Though I took us on a LONG walk only to find that my favorite Chicago-style deep dish restaurant was CLOSED! Suck!) But our pizza and beer were great nonetheless! (This is BEFORE they got their dorky Cubs visors that they INSISTED on wearing just to spite me!) :)
My favorite city in the background...
Sadly, the game went into extra innings (15!!) and we had to leave at 12:30 or so because we had a mile and a half-or-so walk back to the hotel and Travis was in town for business, so he had a meeting early. The game was fun, but turned out to be a disappointing loss. Boo.
Singing in the 7th Inning Stretch
We really had a ton of fun and are so excitd to go to the Red Sox game with Jeremy & Lisa! I think I've convinced Josh that driving in Chicago isn't as bad as he thought and we're definitely going to take a weekend trip up again this summer!
